Lynnea is a parliamentary democracy, like most of Europe's countries are. All Lynnesian citizens and passport holder above the age of 18 are allowed to vote for a new parliament, which gets chosen from 10 parties every 6-8 years. The prime minister of Lynnea gets elected within the ranks of the winning party.
Lynnea might be a rather small country compared to countries in the rest of the world, but they have quite a powerful and functioning military. In WW2, Lynnea formed an alliance with the Allied forces. It was mandatory for all citizens to join the military for a minimum of 2 years until 1997. From that point onwards it was voluntary for any citizen to participate as long as they are above the age of 18. Lynnea currently has close to 600,000 active military personnel. It has 50 submarines as most of the country is surrounded by sea, 300 aircrafts and 208 tanks.
Judicial System
Lynnea follows a civil law system, like nearly all of Europe rather than a common law or religious system. Public law is dealt with independently from civil and criminal justice. Its judiciary also works separately from the law to prevent any type of influence by individuals or other branches of the government. Smaller criminal cases are dealt with by a single judge, but a sub-district judge can also hear minor cases. Depending on how complex some cases are, they can be heard by either one or three judges. There are 30 judges in the supreme court, which is located in the capital of Lynnea, Primor. Punishments for smaller crimes are usually a fine, while penalties for bigger, more serious offences are imprisonment. Lynnea does not have a death penalty for any committed crime no matter how serious it is, such as mass murder. These crimes are punished with life imprisonment. Life imprisonment starts with 100 years, an age that most criminals won't even reach and that's how the safety of Lynnea's citizens is secured. The police force in Lynnea is extremely well trained, as becoming an official police officer requires a minimum of 2 years of training. Though, since it takes such a long time to join the police force officially, it is very well paid, and nearly 1 million of Lynnea's population is part of the police force. Almost all of Lynnea's citizens have jobs, and since education has a very low cost, all children are educated on the consequences of crimes, which include underage drinking and drug use. These reasons add up to the fact that Lynnea's crime rate is relatively low. Most people don't bother with thefts because the fine rate wouldn't be worth the stealing if they do get caught. Human rights are taken very seriously in Lynnea.
Here are some examples of Lynnea's laws:
Here are some examples of Lynnea's laws:
- The official drinking age in Lynnea is 16 at home, and 21 in public. It is quite an age gap, but the logic behind this is that people mature a lot from the age of 18 to 21. This means that once they are older, they should be more responsible as to how much they drink in public. If they drink before the age of consent in their homes, it's the parent's responsibility how much their child drinks.
- Drug use in Lynnea is illegal, and anyone found in possession of drugs will be held in rehabilitation for at least two years, so experts can deal with the drug use and recover from a possible addiction. They would also have to pay a fine of 30,000 Lynneasian Dollars. Drug trafficking has more severe consequences, and the Punishment varies from a fine as high as 250,000 Euros to imprisonment of 1-5 years.
- Everyone citizen in Lynnea must be treated with the same amount of respect and paid equally, no matter their race, sexuality or gender. If anyone is found guilty of not doing so, they will be fined.
- If anyone is convicted of abuse, they will be punished as Lynnea takes abuse extremely serious. Strong verbal abuse (such as bullying) can result in a fine of 5,000 to 10,000 Euros, while physical abuse usually results in imprisonment of up to 20 years and an additional fine of 20,000 Euros. Animal abuse will lead to their pet taken away from them, a fine of 30,000 Euros and they also won't be allowed ever to adopt another pet.
